The start of a new school year can bring a mix of excitement, anticipation, and even a few first-day jitters. Whether your family is brand new to Legends Virtual Academy or returning for another year, it’s normal to feel a little overwhelmed as routines change and new expectations begin. The good news is that a little preparation can go a long way in helping students feel confident, reducing stress, and setting your family up for a successful start to the school year.

At LVA, the first week is designed to help students settle into their routines, connect with their teachers, and become familiar with the tools and expectations they’ll use throughout the year. Preparation doesn’t have to be complicated, even a few simple steps before the first day can make the transition smoother for the whole family.

Reminder: School starts at LVA on August 12, 2026!

Here are a few practical ways to get ready for the first week of school.

Know the Key Dates and Details

Before the first day of school, take a few minutes to review the information your family has already received. Check your email inbox and junk/spam folders for important updates, review your student’s orientation details inside the orientation course, note class and live orientation start times, and make sure you’ve seen any messages from your teacher.

A few minutes of preparation now can make the first week feel much smoother. Knowing where to find important information ahead of time helps reduce stress and allows your family to focus on what matters most, starting the year with confidence.

Connect with Your Teacher Before Day One

One of the best parts of LVA is the partnership between families and teachers. Watch for welcome emails, attend your Meet the Teacher event, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions before school begins.

Building that connection early helps everyone start the year on the same page and gives students a familiar face before their first live class.

Organize Your Learning Space and Materials

You don’t need a perfect classroom at home, just a comfortable, distraction-free space where your student can focus each day. Gather school supplies, charge devices, keep login information handy, and have headphones nearby if needed.

Having everything ready before the first day means less time searching for supplies and more time learning.

Check Your Tech Before Classes Begin

A quick technology check can prevent first-day frustrations. Charge your learning device, install any updates, test your internet connection, and make sure you can log into your student account before August 12.

If you run into any technical issues, don’t panic. Our support team is able to help so your student can get into their student account and learning as quickly as possible.

Map Out the Daily Routine

Virtual learning offers some flexibility to your day, but a consistent routine helps students thrive. Before school starts, talk through what a typical day will look like, including live class times, independent learning, breaks, meals, and family responsibilities.

Practicing the routine before the first day can help students feel more comfortable and confident when classes begin.

Set Up a Learning Space That Supports Success

Your student’s learning space doesn’t have to look like a classroom to be effective. Whether it’s a desk, the kitchen table, or a quiet corner of your home, the goal is to create a comfortable, organized space where your student can focus during live classes and independent work.

Keep frequently used supplies nearby, charge devices each evening, and minimize distractions when possible. Creating a consistent learning environment can help students settle into their routine more quickly and start each day ready to learn.

Give Yourself Grace During the First Week

The first week of school is all about learning new routines, for students, families, and even teachers. It’s okay if everything doesn’t go perfectly right away. It may take a few days to get comfortable with schedules, technology, and expectations.

Remember, you’re not expected to have all the answers. Your LVA team is here to help answer questions, offer guidance, and support your family throughout the school year. Every day gets a little easier as new routines become familiar.

Celebrate the First Day Together

The first day of school is a milestone worth celebrating! Snap a first-day photo, enjoy a special breakfast, write an encouraging note, or create a new family tradition to mark the beginning of another exciting year.

We’d love to celebrate alongside your family! Share your first-day photos with us on our social media or through our school photo-sharing platform so we can cheer on our Legends as they kick off an amazing school year rising up together the LVA Way.
